Launched in 1993 Oxford Diecast took over the old Corgi Toys plant in Swansea and released a range of vans and other commercial vehicles simlar in concept to the Lledo Days Gone range which were sold by direct mail only.
A change in direction saw the company diversify into 1/43 scale light commercials and a new marketing policy saw the range become available through model shops as well as by mail order.
Some of the early releases were a little crude compared to other makers like Corgi but in recent years a change of ownership at Corgi saw the closure of their UK Research and Development dept and the many of the redundant staff moved to Oxford Diecast. Their knowledge and expertise has been evident in the increased quality of finish and better detail on the latest releases and Oxford Diecast have gone from strength to strength producing 1/43 and 1/76 scale models of classic cars and light commercials as well as a new 1/72 scale aircraft range.
