1/43 scale diecast model by Solido of a Mercedes 540K.
Launched in 1936 the Mercedes 540K was one of the most elegant sports/touring cars of the era. The cars and bodies, were produced entirely in house by Mercedes. Mercedes claimed the supercharged 8 cylinder 5 litre engine produced 180 bhp but this was a only possible for short periods with the supercharger engaged.
To engage the supercharger the driver had to push the throttle to the floor which gave a power boost for overtaking but this could only be used for around 20 secs without risking damage to the engine. Production ceased in 1939 but the 540K continues to be an expensive and highly prized collectable car.
The Solido Age D'Or (Golden Age) range was first launched in the 1970's producing accurate well finished models.
This one is an mid 1980's release in good condition with no paint chips. The clear plastic case has yellowed with age (a common problem with Solido cases). The screw to retain the model in the case is missing but it will be packed carefully to prevent any damage during shipping.
