Developed from the 959 as a customer car for Group B the Porsche 961 became something of a white elephant when the FIA withdrew Group B in 1985 leaving Porsche with a car which was now only eligible to run in IMSA-GTX in the IMSA series and at Le Mans.
At $325,00 the 961 didn't sell as privateers found that a Porsche 962 was cheaper and allowed them to chase overall victory rather than just a class win. It was also likely to be easier to find sponsors for a car which stood a chance of overall victory rather than just a class victory.
The sole 961 ran at Le Mans in 1986 painted overall white and also at the end of the season at Daytona.
For the 1987 Le Mans 24 Hour the car appeared at La Sarthe in full Rothmans livery. This was its third and final race. as after completing 199 laps the car was almost destroyed in a fire following  an accident. The car is pictured at Tetre Rouge late Saturday afternoon.
14cms x 11 cms divided back collectors postcard exclusive to Autoavia printed from a previously unpublished photo.
Limited edition of 100 cards.
This is the seventh card in a series of Group C sportscars. The picture shows a low resolution watermarked scan of the card.
